Philipp Tröstl was born in Klagenfurt/Austria, studied classical guitar with Gunter Schneider and jazz guitar with Peter Legat (Count Basic) at the University of Music in Vienna, from where he graduated with distinction in 2002. He extended his studies and went to Paris to learn composition and arrangement with Roland Dyens and received a one year scholarship to study jazz and jazz composition at the University of Miami (USA).

Philipp Tröstl started composing at the age of sixteen and has since written pieces for guitar and other instruments, trying to implement many styles he has explored, from classical, pop, jazz, to avant garde and world music.
Four compositions for solo guitar were published by Helbling Verlag in 2002 "was wäre wenn".

Philipp Tröstl has worked a. a. with Christian Kolonovits, ensemble xx. jahrhundert, Gitarrissima, Michael and Martin Öttl, ensemble reconsil, Franz Hautzinger, Franz Oberthaler, Helmut Neugebauer, Heinrich Walcher.

Awards:
2000/2001 Scholarship Exchange Program with the University of Miami
2002 3rd Prize at Acoustic Guitar Festival with 2 compositions (Chicago and Schwechat 2000)
